Our Past:
The Friends of the Stark County District Library was incorporated on July 17, 1979. The Statement of Purpose said "the corporation is organized exclusively for charitable, literary, and education puposes."
A Sampling from our Past...
| 1979 | FOL bought a bicycle rack for the Library's front entrance. |
| 1980 | First FOL Newsletter was published. |
| 1981 | FOL spent $6,045 for a circulation desk for the Children's Department. |
| 1982 | Junior Great Books project was expanded to 40 classes in Canton City Schools. |
| 1983 | 60,000 books were sorted for the annual Used Book Sale. |
| 1989 | The October Used Book Sale raised $5,000 and every paperback book was sold -- a first for our sales. |
| 1991 | FOL sponsored a trivial pursuit team for a Literacy Day Fundraiser. |
| 1992 | FOL granted its first $1,000 scholarship to a Library employee. |
| 1997 | A profit of $2,088 was raised at the "Sunday Afternoon in the Library with Friends" program titled "Love Letters." |
| 2002 | The new FOL Office and Gift Shop was completed. |
| 2010 | The Gift Shop was relocated to the lobby area. |

Our Present:
The Friends of the Stark County District Library is a dedicated organization whose mission is to assist and promote the Library through volunteer efforts. FOL is making a difference in our community by:
*Underwriting staff in-service day.
*Sponsoring special events and informative programs.
*Raising money through monthly Used Book Sales and on-going book sales at our Gift Shop.
*Providing equipment and services not covered in the library's budget.
*Granting Scholarships to qualifying SCDL employees working toward a degree in Library Science.
*Supporting library projects such as The Novel Event and Black History Celebration.
